Ready for December First

The lights are up, the advent calendars are waiting for excited children to wake up, Santa's done his Christmas shopping... We're ready for December to begin.

I love this special Santa figure a friend of mine made for me. Some friends and I all made up silly Hillbilly nicknames for ourselves and Majban was mine.

I'll most likely be sharing my first DD pages on Monady, so come back then!

December Daily foundation pages done!

My December DailySideCoverIntroSMASH calendar pocketIntro multipocket

Last night I finished all my number pages. Then I punched holes and bound them together with some Tim Holtz D-rings. They feel a little big right now, but I figure I need to leave some space for filling up the album.

If you have seen the pages I posted earlier you'll notice a few changes. The biggest change I made from ,my original plans is that I will not add any craft calendar pages at all. I'll just add my photos and journaling to the number pages. If I need additional space on some dates, I'll add extra pages then.

I didn't worry about stiching or brads going through the paper because I'll just cover them with photos later. And yes, I did notice that the pages 17 and 18 were in the wrong order. I'll fix that, too.

Here are all the pages in my Flickr Gallery!

2Peas online crop this weekend

Are you taking part in the 2Peas online crop this weekend? I combined the "Scrap your food" challenge with this week's Sunday sketch at Studio Calico. The full image is quite blurry thanks to the darkness of November, but the closeups are good. My layout is very close to the original Lisa T one, but I really liked how it came together. The Field Guide kit is SO easy to work with. I think a big part of it is that many of the patterned papers work well as backgrounds.

Materials: SC Field Guide, the Pink Paisley mistable trims from the Boardwalk kit, SC Mister Huey's in Pony

If you want the recipe for those yummy babies you can find it in this post. Happy cooking!

Going in for the kill

I've really gone in for the kill with "Field Guide" these past few days. I scrapped my first layout with it on Thursday, and I've already made 4 projects with it. Here's my favorite one so far:

Materials: SC "Field Guide", Washi from "Board Walk", stamp from "Glee Club, OA sprinkler in "Paper doily", ribbon, leaf

I really loved those exclusive Amy Tan limegreen letter stickers.I used a sketch that Alison Waken had up on the Elle's Studio blog a while back.

Happy fall!

10 on the 10th

I've a had a few goals for my scrapbooking in my head this year. There are many things I wish to accomplish, and some I've been lucky enough to accomplish already.  Here they are, put in writing:
  1. Make it onto a DT - CHECK! On August 1 st this year I was taken onto Magdas DT. Check out their blog here!
  2. To have a "Layout of the week" on the Studio Calico blog
  3. To have a layout in the monthly picks video on Studio Calico's site - CHECK! Look here!
  4. To kill a Studio Calico monthly kit - sigh. I'm not even nearly there...
  5. To put a dent in my stash. I'm on my way, doing the December Daily with my own bits and pieces. Look at my DD foundation pages here!
  6. To develop a true style of my own. Hmmm. May never happen???
  7. To take part in most of the challenges on the Studio Calico blog and forum - CHECK! It IS nice to win stuff! Here's the challenge thread on their forum!
  8. To be the featured project on 2Peas or to be the most liked or commented on project of the day. Now if I would only upload my layouts there, I'd be a lot more likely to accomplish this, wouldn't I? Here's my 2Peas gallery. Now go and like all my ancient layouts on there. :D
  9. Remembering to do "10 on the 10th" every month. This I can do better! At least I remembered this month!
  10. To do more layouts without looking for inspiration from the outside. This is a goal with room for approvement. But here's the latest one that's ALL me:

Here are more "10 on the 10th"!

My DD foundation pages

I've decided to take many of Ali's ideas for my December Daily. When someone that brilliant has already taken the time to think things through you should take advantage, right? The size of my album will be 6x8 inches. I've made a sketch as to what pages I need to make, and how many of each kind. These are my pages:
  • 2 transparancies (to protect the covers)
  • 2 covers (front and back)
  • 5 four-pocket page protectors (I trimmed down nine-pocketed ones)
  • 26 patterned papers
  • 31 calendar pages
Taking good pictures this time of year is almost impossible, so unfortunately they are fuzzy. I hope they will still give you some idea of what I've done. This is my cover pages plus the transparancies. The covers are doubled up and glued together, so they are more sturdy and also have the same pattern on both sides.

Materials: Hambly Studios brown Chicken coop overlay, Studio Calico "Wildflower" PP, Basic Grey Piccadilly brads, American Crafts/Amy Tangerine bits diecuts, October Afternoon Sprinklers in "Paper doily" and these letter stamps

I also bought some card collector pocket pages, and then used my regular papertrimmer to cut them down to 6x8. That left me with 4 pockets. I've filled up some of them. They will sit before the calendar pages for the dates: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Every Thursday in December.

Before all other calendar pages I'll have patterned papers with the numbers on one side, and photos on the back. I went through my stash and picked out papers with classic Christmas colours plus woodgrain. I was lucky enough to find that they also have the right colours on the back. I've started putting numbers on some of them:

My calendar pages will be similar to the ones Ali has made, but I think I'll probably use kraft rather than white cardstock.

Thanks for dropping by! If you've made some foundation pages for yourself I would love to see them. Leave a link in my comments, and I will come by your blog and take a look.

I've started my December Daily!

I've decided to do a December Daily this year. I will use pieces from my stash. I've been feeling guilty about all that paper laying around, and I never even look at it. I went through my boxes today and picked out all the paper that I felt could fit into a December Daily. I've chosen to stick to traditional colours plus woodgrain. I usually don't buy Christmas themed products, but I did find one Christmas paper from last year. Namely this one by Making Memories, which I love:

Noel - Christmas Collage-making memories

I've finished the cover and am now working on the foundation pages. I'll have them photographed as soon as lighting is right!

I'm leaving you with a Pinterest inspired page I made for the Studio Calico blog weekly challenge:

Materials: Studio Calico Glee Club kit, Basic Grey brads, October Afternoon Mini Market stickers

10 year anniversary

Today me and my man have been together for 10 years. Imagine that! We got engaged 6 months later to the day. We worked hard to have our children, born in 08 and 09. We celebrated our anniversary today as a family. Hoping for many years to come!

Watch the pounds pile on and one of us getting more hair and the other less. Also notice how we stopped taking pictures as a couple as soon as the kids were born. Putting this together I realized the last picture I have with both of us in it, is the one from 2008! I will remedy that, I promise.
